World news is a term used in journalism to describe news that is of global importance. It may include news related to the politics of a country, wars or other international conflicts, summits of multilateral organizations and other events that have a worldwide impact.
While much of the news we hear focuses on conflict, controversy and what’s going wrong in the world, there are many amazing things that are happening as well. Reddit user u/cthulhus_spawn recently asked for people to share “some good things that are going on in the world that people might not know about.” Their responses were inspiring, spotlighting environmental comebacks, scientific breakthroughs and global efforts that are making a difference.
In the early days of journalism, foreign or world news was often reported by a correspondent who was sent out from the home office of a newspaper or magazine to a city or region. This person usually filed hard news stories and feature articles that were then sold to newspapers, magazines and radio and television stations. Today, world news is the bulk of the work done by major news agencies such as AP and Reuters.
